Where do you buy an electric shock device used by police?

I’m sure you’ve seen the news lately.

Mass shootings, drivers plowing over pedestrians, and muggings seem to be becoming the norm in our society today.

So it’s really no wonder that people want to find a way to defend themselves against would-be attackers. However, not everyone is comfortable carrying firearms around with them.

That’s where electric shock devices come in.

In this post, I’ll discuss where to buy an electric shock device like those used by police.

In a hurry? Check out my top recommendation, the Taser Pulse, on Amazon.

Want an electric shock device used by police?

Types of electric shock devices

There are tons of electric shock devices to choose from.

Some of them are meant for close quarters, and others are intended to be able to reach longer ranges.

All are useful devices though, in different situations.

Compact Stun Guns

These are the types of stun guns you’ll find (or at least should find) in purses, pockets, or backpacks.

Most are little handheld things with a shocking part at the business end, like the one to the right.

However, some products take on the shape of everyday items, such as calculators, phones, and even portable USB chargers. It can get a little weird.

My personal opinion is that, if you’re going to use one of these, don’t get anything silly like a stun gun keychain or lipstick case. Go with a regular one that is high quality and high enough voltage.

Or better yet…

Stun Guns

It’s probably obvious, but these are the same as compact stun guns with one crucial difference:

They are much bigger.

They also pack a lot more punch than their baby versions.

Stun guns are probably the most popular type of electric shock devices, and they are considered non-lethal weapons.

Which is good, because self-defense isn’t about taking people’s lives, it is about preserving our own safety.

The only issue I have with these is that you have to wait for the assailant to be close enough to you that you can contact them with the device.

Luckily, there are other types of electric shock weapons that work from a distance…

Most of us know the name:

The Taser is a weapon that you will see on the belt of most law enforcement officers.

They use cartridges that hold two metal wires with prongs at the end of them. These electric shock devices can shoot up to 15 feet for civilian versions, and 30 feet for police issue versions.

When they come in contact with an assailant, they let out a 50,000 volt current that immediately stops them in their tracks.

Check out this video to see the effects of that voltage for yourself:

These can also be used in the same way a stun gun is used, for extreme close quarters situations. When the cartridge is not installed, all you have to do is press the trigger, and the pronged end of the weapon will arc.

Again, this is meant to stop the assailant in their tracks.

The police versions of Tasers are more powerful and, as I said, shoot a further distance than civilian models.

But where can you buy these self-defense tools, especially the ones used by law enforcement?

Where do you buy an electric shock device used by police?

Let’s not beat around the bush:

If you wait for an attacker to get close to you in order to use a stun gun, it may be too late to stop them.

Having that stopping power from a distance can save your life.

That’s why having a police-caliber electric shock device, or the next best thing, can be so valuable.

Luckily, these electric shock devices aren’t heavily regulated, and you can purchase them over the internet. You have tons of options to choose from.

So which is best?

This one is as close to a police-style Taser that civilians can get.

It’s Axon’s “professional” Taser model, and the price reflects that.

This is about as close as you will come to finding an electric shock device that the law enforcement officers use.

It works up to 15 feet and has an immediate backup shot if you miss your target – this is great because reloading cartridges is not always an option.

But you probably won’t need that second shot because this device even has a laser targeting system and LED flashlight for visibility. If the assailant is too close for comfort, the option for a contact stun is always there also.

In fact, this is the only TASER that allows you to contact stun while it is loaded.

It also looks unbelievably badass.

The TASER Pulse is a more traditional type of projectile electronic stun devices.

It is, in my opinion, the top civilian model that TASER offers.

Like the X2, it too has a laser target and LED flashlight for easy target acquisition.

The main difference with this device is that you have to load a new cartridge each time you fire, and you can not use the contact stun feature unless there is no cartridge installed.

So, in practice, you would discharge that first round and use the contact stun as a backup self defense measure. Luckily, the main shot has a 30-second duration, which should be sufficient to immobilize an attacker.

Like the X2, it has a shorter shooting distance than police-issue electric shock devices. You’re limited to 15 feet, but this is standard for civilian devices.

Let’s change it up a little bit:

The Taser Bold is a much different model than any I am used to seeing, but I can certainly see the benefit of having one of these.

Especially if you don’t want to holster the weapon because it fits perfectly inside of a waistband.

In fact, it is the TASER product that is most recommended for joggers.

It is doesn’t have a trigger at least not in a traditional sense. Instead, it utilizes a sliding door (acting as the safety) that you open before firing, then you push a button to fire the projectile.

For many, this is super convenient for everyday self defense preparedness.

So, which is the best TASER to use?

It’s a bit of a difficult question.

Really, it depends on you, since everybody has different needs. I guess the more accurate question would be, “which TASER is best for you”?

If you aren’t at all worried about price, I can say with certainty that the TASER X2 is the route you should take.

It has the most features, is the most reliable, and the backup shot is going to be a godsend for people.

Here’s why:

Did you know that in combat, most infantry shots are misses? This is because when the adrenaline is pumping, you are more likely to be off target. In combat, suppression is the main effect of firearms.

So you want to be able to instantly take a second shot if an attacker is still coming toward you.

Also, I think the ability to use the contact stun feature without having to fire first is fantastic.

Let's choose an electric shock device used by police

As a second choice, I’d have to go with the TASER Pulse.

This is going to be appropriate for most civilian use on a normal budget.

The Taser Pulse is probably the most effective product that you will find for the price, and it even comes with two cartridges. These cartridges can be reasonably expensive.

Although, they are certainly worth less than your life, so use them when you need to!

The battery lasts for several shots, and the battery power meter lets you know exactly how much life you’ve got left in the device.

Where the Taser Bolt shines is due to the portability factor. However, if you don’t train in using it properly, I can easily see the sliding door that covers the fire button get in the way when you need to fire this quickly.

If you opt for the Bolt, make sure you get some serous practice with it. Most people intuitively understand a trigger, but the door and button combo can take some getting used to.

The idea is great, but the execution leaves much to be desired.

Combine that with the issues people seem to have with the battery life, and you quickly see where it falters compared to the others. I would probably only recommend this for runners or those that prefer its particular trigger mechanism.

The price difference between the Pulse and Bolt is negligible, too.

What kinds of devices used by police for electric shocks?

Have you decided yet?

As I said, for most people, the Taser Pulse is going to be the best value that most closely matches the electric shock devices used by police.

Electric shock devices are an excellent way to protect yourself without having to use lethal for. They even take the risk of killing someone (almost) completely away.

If you are in a state that greatly restricts your ability to have firearms, or have an issue with carrying them (like me), then one of these incredible tools could be just what you’re looking for.
